5/28/2023 0 Comments The secret of monkey island iso![]() ![]() The branch below now keeps track of the last audio position in all audio-related events, and now confirms and re-positions the track on decode (only if needed). This pause-load-data-resume pattern appears to be an extremely rare behavior (even though it makes perfect sense) so I'm very thankful you noticed and reported it! This revealed a bug in this sequential decode: when the pirate scene resumes playback, the last position used happens to be where we left off loading the pirate's data, causing the garbled audio. In this scenario with a bin/cue, we're essentially using a single binary track, however when we speak to the pirate the game pauses the audio, loads that dialog as data (performing a seek and binary read), and then unpauses the audio. One of the optimizations in the CD-DA code is to perform sequential audio decode in the audio tracks, without seeking (if possible). When you go to talk to a pirate using dosbox-staging 0.75 final the audio goes crazy using the CD version of the game. What bothers me though is all the plot holes between MI2 and Curse which I am not sure whether they can be closed now that more games were added to the franchise. Thanks for the detailed report and careful listening! Keep thinking ppl although I would really love Ron Gilberts' ultimate revelation. These are only some thoughts to twist your mind. Of all that is revealed in Tales, what are Ron Gilberts' contributions and who can let everyone know? Is the Voodoo Lady really manipulating Guybrush and LeChuck or is it just TellTales addition to the franchise? Is the Monkey Island World above another? Is it a different kind of Matrix or the 13th floor? Why is there cement under the X of the treasure of Big Whoop? What is hidden underneat the Monkey Island world besides the underground tunels? A Big Nothing and people should not make such a fuzz about it. What is so interesting about it? Ron Gilbert though mentioned that Big Whoop is what its' name suggests. What kind of theme park is actually Big Whoop? Why is the Voodoo lady and everyone else pointing Guybrush to it and WHY was a map hidden about its location. Treasure of Big Whoop is a E-ticket for the theme park. What happens and where and why is yet to be revealed from Ron Gilberts' mind. LeChucks' revenge shows LeChuck actually getting revenge. In MI1 Guybrush mentions about the SECOND biggest monkey head he has seen. Ron Gilbert mentioned that anachronysms in the game are not necessarily for funny purposes only. Some thoughts about the matter sorry I cannot post all the original interviews videos e.t.c: Anyway, I think that the Voodoo Lady is perhaps omnipotent/enlightened and knows that they are in a game (or whatever it may be) and it's her intention to keep LeChuck and Guybrush at eachother's throats so that they can all continue to survive (i.e, so that more games can be released). It was at the part where she was in jail and Guybrush was annoyed with her. In Chapter 4 of Tales, the Voodoo lady remarks that they are all "players in a much bigger game", or it might have been something to do with puppets. It was of a discussion between Grossman, Gilbert, Tiller and various other Lucasarts peoples after they stopped releasing adventure games. something about "underground tunnels" or something). The fact that Grossman and Gilbert were once recorded talking about the way the logistics of the "undeground" element of the secret meant that they couldn't reveal it in the first 2 games for disk space reasons (or something roughly along those lines. The theme park/underground element of MI2 (obviously). This theory is backed up by a few things: theme park? or something?), something kind of matrixy/plato's cavey. Well, not necessarily a video game, but something like that (maybe even some sort of. This may not seem like a secret, but I think that the original idea was to acknowledge that it was a game and have the characters be like "I'm a character in a video game?!". I maintain my super awesome theory that the secret of Monkey Island is that it is a video game. ![]()
